Bubbles at a caravan door handle during a pressure leak test

Leak testing

Water gets into caravans slowly and quietly. We pressurise the van and soap the seams, and the bubbles show exactly where it’s getting in, before it rots the frame.

How it works

What happens when you book

  1. Seal the vanVents and drains are blocked and a fan pressurises the inside of the van slightly above outside air.
  2. Soap and watchEvery seam, window, hatch, light, join and screw is soaped. Where air escapes, bubbles form. There’s no guessing.
  3. Moisture checkInside, we meter the walls and floor around any leak to see whether water has already done damage.
  4. Report and quoteYou get photos of each entry point and a quote for resealing, and if needed, repair.

Caravan leak testing in Murray Bridge

A caravan leak test at Murray Bridge Caravan Centre pressurises the van and soaps every seam, window, hatch, light and fitting. Where air escapes, bubbles form, which shows the exact point water will get in. It takes about two hours and ends with a photographed report and a resealing quote.

Water damage is the most expensive thing that happens to caravans and the slowest to show. Sealant on a van parked outside in Murray Bridge sees strong UV all summer and ages faster than you’d think. A yearly test costs a fraction of a wall rebuild.

If you’re buying a used van, test it before you hand over the money. We do pre-purchase leak tests for buyers and sellers, and the report is yours to keep.

What’s the difference between a leak test and just looking?

Looking finds leaks that have already caused damage. A pressure test finds the pinhole in a sealant bead that will cause damage next winter. The bubbles show exactly where, down to the screw.

How often should I test?

Once a year is sensible. Sun and heat age sealant faster than people expect, and a van parked outside year-round is the usual suspect. Always before buying a used van.

If you find leaks, can you fix them?

Yes. Minor entry points are resealed, usually the same week. If moisture has got into the frame we quote a water damage repair, which is a bigger job.

Will a leak test find a leak that only shows in heavy rain?

Yes. Pressure testing finds every path air can take out of the van, which is every path water can take in, regardless of weather.
